Personal and Professional Journey
Q: Could you share your journey into dentistry and what inspired you to specialize in restorative and aesthetic dentistry?
My journey into dentistry began with a deeply personal experience. As a child, I suffered trauma to my front teeth, which significantly impacted my smile. I quickly realized how much a smile could influence one’s life, especially during such formative years. Unfortunately, this led to moments of bullying at school, making me acutely aware of how even small imperfections in one’s appearance can affect confidence and self-esteem. From that moment, I decided that I wanted to become a dentist—not just to treat teeth but to transform lives by restoring smiles and confidence. This early experience shaped my passion for restorative and aesthetic dentistry. I’ve always believed that even minor defects in a person’s teeth can alter their entire outlook on life. My mission is to help patients reclaim their smiles and, in doing so, enhance their quality of life.
After specializing in esthetic dentistry, my dedication and philosophy were recognized internationally. I was honored by Styleitaliano with the Best Follower Dentist award, celebrating dentists who embody the community’s principles of simplicity, excellence, and patient-centered care. I then became the first Gold Member of Styleitaliano, further solidifying my commitment to advancing the field. Additionally, I earned certification from the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry (ESCD), becoming a certified member and the Country Chairperson for Palestine.
My journey reached a new milestone when I was awarded the prestigious Youngest and Most Promising Dentist Award by the ESCD, recognizing my contributions to the field and my dedication to combining clinical excellence with training and education. Most recently, I was honored with the Fellowship of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE) in the USA, an acknowledgment of my ongoing commitment to advancing the art and science of esthetic dentistry.
This personal connection to the transformative power of a smile drives everything I do, making restorative and aesthetic dentistry more than a profession for me—it’s a lifelong purpose.

Q: Your work emphasizes the belief that everyone deserves a beautiful smile regardless of economic status. How do you incorporate this philosophy into your daily routine?
My belief that everyone deserves a beautiful smile, regardless of their economic status, is a cornerstone of my approach to dentistry. Living and working in an environment where many people cannot afford expensive treatments has made this philosophy even more integral to my daily routine. I incorporate it in the following ways: I design affordable treatment plans that cater to the financial limitations of my patients, ensuring that they receive high-quality care without undue financial burden. I focus on minimally invasive and cost-effective solutions that achieve excellent results. Understanding the challenges of my community, I actively participate in outreach programs to offer free or reduced-cost dental services. These initiatives ensure that even the most vulnerable individuals can access essential dental care.
In a community where advanced treatments may be out of reach for many, I emphasize the importance of prevention. By educating patients on maintaining their oral health, I help them avoid costly and complex dental procedures. I use my platform to advocate for better access to affordable dental materials and policies that support low-income communities. I also mentor young dentists, encouraging them to adopt a patient-first approach in underserved areas. I ensure that every patient feels respected and cared for, regardless of their financial situation. Many people in my community shy away from dental care due to the perceived cost, and I work to break that barrier with kindness, understanding, and flexible options. Ultimately, working in an environment where economic challenges are a daily reality has shaped my commitment to serving with integrity and compassion. My goal is to provide not just dental treatments but also hope and confidence to those who might otherwise feel excluded from care. A beautiful smile is a right, not a privilege.

Q: You’ve invented innovative tools and contributed extensively to dental literature. What drives your passion for advancing the field of dentistry?
I’ve always believed that achieving excellence should be done in a simple yet effective way, without compromising the quality of work. This philosophy drives my passion for creating innovative tools and techniques that make dental procedures easier, faster, and more efficient for both dentists and patients. One of my greatest inspirations has been the Styleitaliano group, particularly its founder, Dr. Walter Devoto, whose mentorship and shared vision have been instrumental in making this journey possible. Styleitaliano embodies a core principle that resonates deeply with me: simplicity combined with respect for the patient’s needs. This philosophy not only improves outcomes but also ensures that dentistry remains accessible and patient centered. Through my work, I focus not only on developing tools but also on introducing techniques that simplify the entire daily workflow of dentists. By streamlining processes, we can enhance the quality of patient care while minimizing treatment time and discomfort. It’s deeply fulfilling to see how these innovations not only improve the clinical experience for practitioners but also have a profound, positive impact on patients’ lives. I invented the LM Replica Posterior Instrument and Replica Anterior, as well as the Proximal Unica Matrix. Additionally, I developed a new technique for anterior composite restoration known as the Simplified Approach. Ultimately, my passion for advancing dentistry stems from a desire to bridge the gap between innovation and practicality, ensuring that every dentist has the resources to provide the best care and every patient feels valued and cared for.
Impact of the War in Palestine on Dentistry
Q: How has the ongoing conflict in Palestine affected the dental industry and access to dental care in your community?
The ongoing conflict in Palestine due to Israeli occupation has profoundly impacted the dental industry and access to care, creating immense challenges that affect both practitioners and patients. Since the last conflict began, more than 60 dentists have tragically lost their lives in Gaza, underscoring the severe risks faced by healthcare professionals. Infrastructure has been severely damaged, restricting access to clinics and disrupting healthcare services. Patients often face barriers to seeking care due to instability, frequent closures, and movement restrictions. Economically, many families are unable to afford even basic treatments, resulting in a rise in untreated dental issues that often escalate into emergencies, which are costlier and more complex to address. Supply chain disruptions have further exacerbated these challenges, limiting access to essential materials, modern equipment, and medications, forcing dentists to work with outdated tools or make innovative adjustments to maintain care quality. The situation also affects professional growth; travel restrictions and financial constraints hinder participation in international conferences and advanced training programs, pushing practitioners to rely heavily on virtual learning.
The psychological toll is significant for both dentists and patients, with stress and instability leading to burnout among professionals and fear or financial concerns deterring patients from seeking timely care. Despite these overwhelming obstacles, the dental community in Palestine continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience. Dentists tirelessly prioritize minimally invasive, cost effective treatments to meet the needs of as many patients as possible. By fostering international collaborations and raising awareness, we strive to uphold the dignity of our patients and work toward a future where quality dental care is accessible to all Palestinians, even amidst adversity.
Q: Running a private clinic in a conflict zone is undoubtedly challenging. Can you describe some of the difficulties you’ve faced in maintaining your clinic and providing care?
Running a private clinic in a conflict zone like Palestine comes with profound challenges that test both resilience and resourcefulness. The ongoing instability often leads to sudden closures, interruptions in operations, and patients avoiding care due to safety concerns, which affects both their health and the clinic’s sustainability. Financial hardships among patients make it difficult for many to afford even basic treatments, let alone advanced or cosmetic care, forcing me to balance affordability with keeping the clinic operational. Supply chain disruptions caused by import restrictions and logistical barriers further complicate access to essential materials and equipment, requiring creative solutions to maintain treatment quality. Attracting and retaining skilled staff is another hurdle, as many professionals seek opportunities in more stable environments. On top of these, the mental and emotional strain of working under constant stress takes its toll on both practitioners and patients. Despite these obstacles, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of care, even as my clinic has been severely damaged multiple times—partially and completely destroyed during various conflicts—forcing me to rebuild from scratch on several occasions. These experiences have taught me the value of adaptability, empathy, and perseverance, and I see my clinic not just as a healthcare facility but as a beacon of hope, where patients can feel valued and cared for, even amidst the difficulties of daily life.
Q: Have the circumstances in Palestine influenced your choice of techniques or materials in restorative and aesthetic dentistry? If so, how?
The circumstances in Palestine have significantly influenced my approach to restorative and aesthetic dentistry, shaping both the techniques I use and the materials I choose. These adaptations stem from the unique challenges we face, including resource limitations, economic constraints, and logistical barriers.”
1. Access to Resources:
Import restrictions and logistical barriers often make it difficult to obtain essential dental materials, equipment, and medications. International support in facilitating the delivery of these resources, either through donations or more accessible supply channels, would significantly enhance the ability to deliver care.
2. Educational Opportunities:
Travel restrictions often limit our ability to attend international conferences, workshops, and hands-on training programs. Expanding access to virtual learning platforms, webinars, and remote mentorship programs would allow dental professionals in conflict zones to stay updated with advancements in the field.
3. Collaboration and Networking:
Strengthening international collaborations between dental associations, institutions, and professionals can foster knowledge exchange and innovative solutions. Programs that connect dentists in conflict zones with international mentors or peers can provide guidance, inspiration, and practical support.
4. Advocacy for Healthcare Rights:
The international community can play a crucial role in advocating for the right to healthcare, ensuring that dental professionals and their patients are not overlooked in conflict zones. Raising awareness about the challenges we face can help drive policy changes and humanitarian efforts.
5. Financial Assistance and Grants:
Establishing grants or funding programs to support dental clinics in conflict zones would enable them to sustain operations and invest in better equipment and materials. Such support could also subsidize treatments for economically disadvantaged patients.
6. Psychological and Emotional Support:
Working in a conflict zone takes a significant emotional toll. Support programs that address the mental health and well-being of dental professionals and their teams can help prevent burnout and maintain motivation in these challenging circumstances.
Ultimately, what we need most is solidarity and understanding. By standing with dental professionals in conflict zones and providing meaningful support, the international community can ensure that the universal right to oral health is upheld, even in the most difficult situations.”

Family and Personal Impact
Q: How has the war in Palestine affected you personally and your family?
The war in Palestine due to Israeli occupation has profoundly shaped my life and the lives of my family, bringing immense challenges, pain, and loss. Since I was born in Gaza, I have endured the devastation of eight wars, each leaving deep scars on my personal journey and my community. My clinic has been severely impacted multiple times—partially and even completely destroyed during different conflicts—forcing me to rebuild and adapt under extremely difficult circumstances, often with limited resources and overwhelming uncertainty. In the most recent war, my home was completely destroyed, leaving my immediate family and me to start over once again, trying to find stability amidst the chaos. Tragically, I have also experienced the loss of loved ones during these conflicts, including my uncle and close friends, whose lives were taken too soon. Adding to this heartbreak, my extended family—my mother, father, and brothers—remains in Gaza, enduring unimaginable suffering. The constant fear for their safety weighs heavily on me every day as I strive to balance my responsibilities as a dentist with the emotional toll of knowing my loved ones are living in dire conditions. Despite these overwhelming hardships, the resilience of my family inspires me deeply. Their unwavering strength motivates me to keep going, both to support them and to serve my patients and community. These experiences, though painful, have instilled in me a profound sense of empathy and a steadfast commitment to bringing hope and healing, even in the face of relentless adversity.
Q: Balancing an international career as a lecturer and chairperson with living in a conflict zone must be demanding. How do you manage this balance?
Balancing an international career as a lecturer and chairperson with living in a conflict zone is undoubtedly challenging, but it has also taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and prioritization. I have developed a structured approach to managing my time, ensuring that I can meet the demands of my international responsibilities while maintaining a strong presence at home. Careful planning allows me to dedicate time to lecturing, research, and my role as a chairperson, while still addressing the needs of my clinic and family. Technology has been a vital tool in bridging the gap between my local and international roles. Virtual meetings, online lectures, and remote collaborations allow me to stay connected with global colleagues and fulfill my responsibilities without needing to travel constantly. My family and team at the clinic provide incredible support, helping me navigate the complexities of my dual roles. Their encouragement and understanding give me the strength to manage the emotional and logistical challenges of working in a conflict zone while pursuing an international career.
Despite the demands of my career, I remain deeply connected to my roots and the needs of my local community. My experiences in Palestine inspire my international work, and I see my global platform as an opportunity to raise awareness and bring attention to the challenges faced by dentists in conflict zones. Living in a conflict zone has taught me to adapt quickly and find purpose in my work, no matter the circumstances. My commitment to education, advocacy, and patient care keeps me motivated, even when the demands feel overwhelming. While managing this balance is demanding, it is also deeply rewarding. My international career allows me to bring global knowledge and innovations back to my community, and my experiences in Palestine provide a unique perspective that enriches my work on the global stage. It’s a dynamic interplay that pushes me to grow both personally and professionally, despite the challenges.
Q: Can you share any personal experiences of resilience or inspiration that have helped you persevere during challenging times?
Living and working in a conflict zone presents countless challenges, but it is in these moments of adversity that I’ve found resilience and inspiration to persevere. One particular experience stands out as a defining moment in my journey. During a period of heightened instability, I faced significant difficulties in running my clinic. Patients were unable to reach the clinic due to movement restrictions, supplies were delayed, and I worried about the future of my practice. At the same time, I was preparing for an international lecture that I feared I wouldn’t be able to deliver due to the circumstances. The weight of these challenges felt overwhelming. One day, a young patient came into my clinic with a broken front tooth—a traumatic injury that reminded me of my own childhood experience. Despite the limited resources, I was determined to restore her smile. After completing the treatment, the joy and gratitude in her eyes reignited my purpose. That moment reminded me why I chose this path: to make a difference, even when the odds are against me. It was this experience that pushed me to prepare for the lecture with renewed energy. I delivered it virtually, sharing the story of resilience and the importance of adapting in the face of adversity. The overwhelmingly positive response from colleagues around the world showed me the power of connection and the shared passion within our dental community. This experience taught me that resilience is not just about enduring challenges but about finding meaning and inspiration within them. It is the smiles of my patients, the unwavering support of my family, and the opportunity to share my story with others that keep me moving forward, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be. Over the years, I have visited more than 20 countries as a lecturer and speaker in various events, congresses, and courses, sharing my experiences and knowledge with the global dental community.

Through international lectures, conferences, and publications, I raise awareness about issues such as limited access to materials, economic hardships, and the psychological toll on practitioners and patients in conflict zones. I also work to connect local dentists with global networks that provide resources, training, and mentorship, while showcasing the resilience and creativity of Palestinian dentists who continue to innovate despite adversity. By fostering collaborations between Palestinian and international dental communities, I aim to inspire empathy, encourage shared learning, and promote minimally invasive, patient centered approaches that align with our local realities. Ultimately, my goal is to amplify the voices of Palestinian dentists, ensure their challenges are addressed, and contribute to a stronger, more supportive global dental community.”

Q: What message do you wish to convey to your international colleagues about the realities of working as a dentist in Palestine?
To my international colleagues, I wish to convey that working as a dentist in Palestine is a testament to resilience, creativity, and unwavering dedication. The realities here are shaped by the challenges of conflict, including restricted access to resources, financial hardships among patients, and the emotional toll of working in an unstable environment. Despite these obstacles, we strive to uphold the highest standards of care, often finding innovative solutions to deliver effective treatments with limited means. Our commitment is fueled by the understanding that dentistry is not just about restoring smiles but also about restoring hope and dignity in the face of adversity. I urge my colleagues to see the value of collaboration and solidarity in helping bridge the gaps and ensure that quality dental care remains a right, not a privilege, even in the most challenging circumstances.
Future Vision
Q: Given the challenges you face, what are your hopes and aspirations for the future of dentistry in Palestine?

I aspire to see a healthcare system where every individual has access to quality dental care, regardless of their financial or social circumstances. I hope for improved infrastructure, easier access to advanced materials and technologies, and more opportunities for local dentists to receive international training and mentorship. My goal is to foster a culture of minimally invasive, patient centered care that prioritizes both the well-being and dignity of patients. Furthermore, I dream of stronger collaborations between Palestinian dentists and the global dental community, leading to innovations that address our unique challenges while contributing to the advancement of the field worldwide. Above all, I hope that the resilience and dedication of Palestinian dentists will continue to inspire positive change, both within our borders and beyond.”
Q: How do you see your role evolving in advancing aesthetic and restorative dentistry both locally and globally?
I see my role as a bridge between local needs and global advancements in aesthetic and restorative dentistry. Locally, I aim to continue educating and empowering Palestinian dentists by introducing innovative, minimally invasive techniques and fostering a culture of patient centered care that aligns with our unique challenges. By mentoring young professionals and creating accessible educational resources, I hope to elevate the standard of dentistry in Palestine despite the limitations we face. Globally, I see myself as an advocate for collaboration and knowledge exchange, sharing the resilience and creativity of Palestinian dentists while exchanging knowledge from international experts to bring cutting-edge practices back to my community. Through my work with international organizations, I aspire to contribute to the evolution of dentistry worldwide, ensuring it becomes more inclusive, resource-efficient, and focused on improving patients’ lives across diverse contexts.”
