The Faculty of Dentistry at MAHSA University has established itself as a leading provider of dental education in Malaysia and beyond. Since its inception, the faculty has consistently strived for excellence, offering a comprehensive range of academic programs and ground breaking research opportunities. It offers programmes at the Diploma, Degree, Masters and Doctorate level. MAHSA University is the first Private University to offer Masters and Doctorate programmes which enable the graduates to attain a specialist qualification in Dentistry.
The MAHSA International Dentistry Conference (MI-DENT) 2024 was conducted by the Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University on April 26th and 27th 2024 at the Auditorium in the Humanity Building, MAHSA University. The event was attended by a total of 52 delegates and 189 DDS students and also our industry partners.
It was a successful event conducted by the Organizing Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr Prathap Chandar Manivannan and team, under the able guidance of our Dean Prof. Dato Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Abu Hassan.
The conference featured interesting lectures from local and international speakers and several competitions and presentations for the students, including Clinical case presentation, Table clinic competition, Oral and poster presentations, Quiz competition and Two-minute video presentations on “Life of Dental Students”.
The event started with Clinical case presentations for the first hour, followed by the opening ceremony. The ceremony started with the National Anthem and Doa recital. Our Dean, Prof. Dato Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Abu Hassan delivered the welcome address, followed by the Inaugural speech by our Guest of Honour Vice Chancellor YB Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ikram Shah Bin Ismail. He also officiated the conference by the release of the Programme Book along with Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rosnah binti Mohd Zain and our Dean Prof. Dato Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Abu Hassan. The ceremony also included music and dance performances from the DDS students.

The conference then resumed with very interesting lectures by our keynote speakers.
• Dr. Nurul Huda Hasan delivered the first keynote address titled “Tooth Proportions and Its Implications in Aesthetic Restorative Treatment.”
• Professor Dr. Dax Abraham gave the second keynote address on “Clinical Diagnosis to Molecular Diagnosis – A Paradigm Shift.”
The afternoon session started with a Guest talk by Dr. How Zhuo Yuan from VOCO, who introduced the audience to some interesting Voco dental products. This was followed by parallel sessions of clinical case presentations made by the postgraduate students of our dental faculty and from Manav Rachna Dental college, India, and Table clinic presentations made by the DDS year 4 students. This marked the end of the first day of the conference.
MI-DENT Partnership Night
The Partnership night was an extension of the MAHSA International Dentistry Conference (MI-DENT) 2024 conducted by the Faculty of Dentistry. This was conducted on the evening of the first day of the conference to promote business collaborations and friendly relations with our industry partners. The event was conducted at Vintage, Unity Building.

The guests were welcomed by our Dean, Prof. Dato Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Abu Hassan, followed by the Inaugural speech by Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rosnah binti Mohd Zain. This was followed by a brief introduction to RIE and MRI, the research and innovations bodies of MAHSA, by Dr Audrey Yong Chee Hui and Dr Liew Fong Fong respectively.
Assoc. Prof. Dr Santhosh Kotian, Deputy Dean (PG & Research) briefed everyone regarding the ongoing research activities at the Faculty of Dentistry. This was followed by a series of introductory talks by our industry partners from Voco, Ti Ho Healthcare Technology, SEPA Dental, La Dent Lab, Meridian Dental Care and Qube Integrated Malaysia.
However, the highlight of the evening was the signing of MOUs with:
1. SEPA Dental Holdings Sdn Bhd – Dr Allen Teh Bang Cheng, CEO
2. TiHo Healthcare Technology Co. LTD – Dr Yuan Kai Lu, Chairman
3. La Dent Lab – En. Haziq Rafiq Bin Roslan, Director
Also in attendance during the MoU signing were the legal advisor team lead by Madam Noor Azah Azizan bint Mohamed Ali. The Deputy Deans of our faculty, Prof Dr Hadijah Abdullah and Assoc. Prof. Dr Padmanabha Kumar, were also present at the event expressing their support to the faculty.
The partnership night was a great success and ended with dinner and group photos with aspirations of positive outcomes of the new collaborations.
The second day started with parallel sessions of Oral and Poster presentations of student research by DDS year 5 students for the first hour. This was followed by an inspiring lecture titled “Changing The Game: How To Thrive in a Challenging Dental Economy” by our third keynote speaker Dr. Allen Teh Bang Cheng, who is a MAHSA Alumni and CEO of SEPA Dental clinic. The parallel oral and poster sessions continued until the lunch break.
The afternoon session started with a guest talk by Dr. Yuan Kai Lu, Chairman of Ti-Ho Dental, Taiwan, who spoke on ‘Essentials of Ti-Ho Implant Dental System’. This was followed by a very interesting game of “Quiz Mania”.
As the event was nearing its completion, Assoc. Prof. Dr Prathap Chandar Manivannan delivered the Vote of Thanks, which was followed by the prize giving ceremony. All winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The conference ended with group photos of happy faces of all the committee members and volunteers.
We also had parallelly running Trade exhibition with 7 booths from various dental product companies and we also received sponsored prizes from our Industry partners.

The conference provided a valuable platform for students and professionals to engage in meaningful discussions and exchange ideas. The event was well-received and contributed positively to the academic and professional development of all attendees.
